Benjamin was commissioned to compose a piece for “Messiah Reimagined”, a project led by founder and Artistic Director of Leichhardt Espresso Chorus, Michelle Leonard OAM. The project called on some of Australia’s most innovative composers to reimagine one of the most iconic of choral works – Handel’s Messiah – to place it firmly into our modern world.

Written for double choir, chamber orchestra and spoken word, the concert also premiered music by Alice Chance, Josephine Gibson, Andrew Howes, David Basden, Ross Edwards, Paul Stanhope, Dan Walker, Elena Kats-Chernin, Ben Burton, Lyle Chan, Joscelyn Markerink, Anastasia Pahos, Kevin Barker, Roman Benedict, Owen Elsley, Sally Whitwell, Luke Byrne and others.
